Offered as part of an estate, Very rare 113 year old and completely restored RHD Overland 69 Touring! Key Facts More to come! 25.6 hp, 226.2 cu. in. inline four-cylinder engine, selective sliding-gear three-speed manual transmission, semi-elliptic front with cantilever rear suspensions, and rear-wheel drum brakes. Wheelbase: 110 in. The story of Overland is a rollercoaster ride, and typical of many of the USA's early automobile manufacturers. The Overland was advanced for its time; for example, early models featured a removable ignition plug that prevented auto theft when left unattended, however, the firm was in danger of collapsing by 1907. John North Willys, a dealer from Elmira, New York, had a $10,000 deposit on an order of 500 cars. To prevent himself from losing the sales he had generated, he stepped in and assumed management of the struggling company. The newly reorganized Willys-Overland Company oscillated between the verge of bankruptcy and years of multi-million-dollar profit, and production continued until the 1930s. The well known modern Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, is badged in honour of these vehicles. This example offered here, is part of a local Canberra estate. The car was restored in meticulous detail over many years, and very well documented throughout. Included with the car is significant paperwork with a story behind the car, notes and photos from throughout the restoration, a reprinted 1913 instruction booklet, owners manual, specifications sheets and much more, decades of information that would be near impossible to source now (refer images). The Overland is finished in a striking yellow with brown accents and seats, and being the early Overland 69 features no electricity, instead a Kinwood Oiler for the gas lights and lubrication. This marks an incredibly rare opportunity to secure a restored antique vehicle with significant history included.
