- 23 H x 18 W cm (image); 41 H x 35 W cm (frames) - This is a famous composite photo of the monoplane 'Southern Sun' Flying over the Harbour Bridge under construction in 1930; Amy Johnson was the first woman to fly solo from Britain to Australia; however her Gyspy Moth crash landed in Brisbane; she was then flown to Sydney by Charles Ulm in this plane and the two of them did the fly-by of the Coathanger - The picture was made as a composite afterwards by the photographer Searle because the actual images from the day were too blurry - Searle is highly regarded for his historical landscape and documentary photographs; he worked with the famous photographer John Watt Beattie in Hobart, Tasmania, between 1911 and 1915 and was also associated with prominent Australian firms including Hall & Co. and Grace Bros in Sydney - Amy Johnson (British, 1903-1941) was a pionering aviatrix who became the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia in 1930; flying her de Havilland Gipsy Moth, named Jason, she completed the grueling 11,000-mile (17,700 km) journey in 19 days, capturing the world's imagination - For more information about Amy Johnson, please see - https://aso.gov.au/titles/newsreels/arrival-miss-amy-johnson/ - This work is nicely framed in vintage frame; frame and work both in very good overall condition
