The pinnacle of Houghton’s winemaking pedigree.Named after the legendary Jack Mann, who completed 51 consecutive vintages for the estate, this flagship red is crafted from the historic 1971 plantings of the original Houghton Cabernet clone at the Justin Vineyard in Frankland River.The cooler growing conditions of the 2022 vintage in Frankland River yielded one of the most elegant, svelte, and structural releases in the history of the label, balancing delicate aromatic detail with immense underlying power. Colour: Dark purple with a brilliant, bright scarlet rim. Aroma: An incredibly dense, concentrated, and charismatic bouquet. It opens up with striking aromas of cassis, dark forest fruits, and dried plum, seamlessly layered with complex nuances of coffee grinds, black olive tapenade, wild herbs, milk chocolate, and an elegant overlay of cigar box and mahogany-like oak. Palate: Full-flavoured, rich, and sumptuously layered while maintaining a medium-weighted, poised frame. A pure core of blackcurrant and plum fruit travels across a seamless palate. The structure is defined by fine-grained, powdery, and authoritative tannins that deliver superb tension and structural restraint, finishing remarkably long with bittersweet chocolate notes and fine graphite-like elements.
