Full Description

A revered cornerstone of premium cool-climate Australian winemaking. Established in the Yarra Valley by the legendary Dr John Middleton,Mount Mary produces a Pinot Noir celebrated for its absolute finesse, fragrance, and longevity. This side-by-side comparison captures two contrasting vintage expressions from the estate's library, both showcasing beautiful tertiary complexity and classic Burgundian poise. 1x 2002 Colour: Translucent garnet with a beautifully mature, clear brick-red edge. Aroma: A highly charming, perfumed bouquet of dried rose petals, wild strawberries, and red cherries, layered with warm cinnamon, cloves, and a delicate herbal undercurrent. Palate: Light-to-medium bodied, smooth, and highly expressive. A fine, succulent core of juicy red fruits is gracefully balanced by textured acidity and subtle, integrated vanilla oak. Finish: Remarkably pretty and supple, leaving a fine, savoury, and lingering herbal thread. 1x 2003 Colour: Deep, mature tawny-red with a rich mahogany core. Aroma: An intense, sweet bouquet of liqueur cherry chocolates, ripe plum, and briar, giving way to complex undertones of caramel, exotic spice, and a faint gamey meatiness. Palate: Sumptuous, velvety, and unctuous. The palate delivers profound concentration and presence, with dark cherry and stewed plum flavours backed by a serious, powerful structural frame. Finish: Exceptionally long and authoritative, where firm, persistent tannins harmonise with complex touches of tar, herbs, and dark spice.
