Full Description
Baron Hermann Von Rieben was born to a baronial family of the manorof Kosa-Broma in Mecklenburg. A sociable man, he built the Von RiebensHotel located on our Scotts Creek property which was licenced in 1855and operated continuously for twenty years. Of essential importance totourists of the district where every comfort and accommodation wasmore than one could expect, it overlooked the majestic lagoon wetlandteaming with fish and bird life.Hermann was also the Postmaster opening the first Country Eyre PostOffice in 1859 at the hotel. These historic sites are a link to our historyand sit serenely adjacent the vineyards which continue to thriveproducing this estate grown wine.The original settler of the land where the vines are planted in rockylimestone soils perfectly suited to these varieties.
