96 lots listed. Times are Sydney time. You bid on Pickles.

Australian Frontline Machinery sells equipment from Defence bases Australia-wide under contract with the Commonwealth, through online sales run by Pickles. Lots on this page marked as Australian Frontline Machinery are those Defence disposals; other lots are military-style goods listed by commercial auctioneers such as Grays. Everything is sold as-is, where-is, plus buyer's premium and GST.

How ex-ADF surplus is sold

The Department of Defence does not sell surplus to the public itself. Australian Frontline Machinery (AFM) sells equipment from Defence bases Australia-wide under contract with the Commonwealth, and Pickles has run its auctions since August 2019. Sales include vehicles, trucks, trailers, plant, generators, containers and general goods such as storage cases and stillages.

AFM holds one online sale a month, and each runs for six days, so the number of live lots rises and falls. Between sales there can be none at all. The date above shows what is coming, and an alert will tell you when matching lots are listed.

Lots are sold as-is, where-is, plus buyer's premium and GST. Items at AFM's Thurgoona site are collected on set days after the sale closes, and a vehicle can only be driven away if it is registered with a current roadworthy certificate; otherwise it leaves on a tow truck. Our guide to military surplus auctions in Australia covers registration and export, and the true-cost calculator adds the fees up before you bid.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I buy Australian military surplus?
Ex-ADF equipment is sold to the public by Australian Frontline Machinery, the Commonwealth's contracted seller, through online auctions on Pickles. GovAuctions lists those lots alongside military-style surplus from other Australian auctioneers, and you bid on the auctioneer's site.
When is the next ex-ADF auction?
Australian Frontline Machinery holds an online sale on Pickles every month, and each runs for six days. The next date we know of is shown on this page.
Can I drive an ex-military vehicle home after the sale?
Only if it is registered and has a current roadworthy certificate, or you are a trade buyer with trade plates. Otherwise it has to leave the collection site on a tow truck, and many ex-ADF vehicles need work before they can be registered for the road.
