SPACE LAB'S GENERAL PURPOSE WORKSTATION was used as a multipurpose support facility for conducting general laboratory operations above the Space Shuttle. It supported biological experiments, bio sampling microbiological experiences and served as a closed environment for containment while routine equipment repair or other inflight operations were performed, providing the essential working space and accommodated laboratory equipment and instruments required for many life sciences investigations Housed in a Spacelab double rack the GPWS was self-contained apart from power data and cooling interfaces Flown on the Spacelab Life Sciences 1 SLS1 Spacelab Life Sciences 2 SLS2 Neurolab and Spacelab J SLSJ missions, est. dimensions: 172"T; est. weight: 1500 lbs.
