The Bin 389 style combines the elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon with the richness of Shiraz and demonstrates a typical Penfolds balance between fruit and oak in a richly flavoured wine with medium to long-term cellaring potential. Maintenance of the style is paramount, and the proportions of the two varieties can vary widely. The wine is considered an exceptional vintage of Bin 389 due to its balance of power, richness, and structure. The vintage conditions included below-average winter rainfall followed by warm harvest conditions that allowed for excellent ripeness. Matured for 18 months in American oak barrels to enhance its structure and longevity. Vineyard Region: Padthaway (30%), Bordertown (25%), McLaren Vale (20%), Barossa Valley (19%), Clare Valley. Grape Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz. Last Tasted: Penfolds Rewards of Patience (2008). Peak Drinking: Now - 2030. Part of the "Curated Fine Wine Collection :: Feat. Pinot Noir" sale on Grays.
