Seppeltsfield 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny Port 1895 (1x 750mL) Barossa This is a very rare and unique find – a 125 year old Para Liqueur Port! Presented in a 50mL miniature bottle in a Perspex fronted wooden display case – please see photo. To say that J.E, Seppelt began the style of Para Liqueur back in the 1950s is pure speculation. What he did was to select several varieties of grapes growing in the surrounding district and blend them to make a wine which displayed unique characteristics. Recognising this, a formula was evolved over a period of years and this was handed down from father to son and so on through the generations of winemakers at Seppeltsfield. The earliest Para Ports were most likely made from a blend of Shiraz, Mataro and Grenache grapes – a practice still continued to the present day.At vintage, this fruit is fermented on skins for several days, run off into fresh tanks and fortified. After settling and racking the new wine is filled into hogsheads and transported to storage sheds for the initial maturation period.Para Liqueur Port doesn’t need any introduction – it is known throughout the world as one of the finest ports available. And so, back in 1878 a tradition was started. A tradition that the Seppelt family, through five generations, has continued: the practice of laying aside one puncheon of the finest wine from each vintage. The Company is now in the unique position where it can release a Para Liqueur with 100 years of age every year starting from the 1878 vintage. The skill and foresight of the pioneer winemakers of South Australia enables us to present this unique product to the world. Part of the "Premium Ports & Spirits feat. Bowmore" sale on Grays.
