Full Description

Named after the select vine cuttings taken from the estate's flagship RunRig vineyards, the 2002 Descendant is a power-packed yet exceptionally perfumed Barossa classic.Rather than using new oak, this vintage spent 18 months in seasoned, second-use French oak barriques—preserving the absolute purity of the fruit while imparting subtle, structural complexity.Benefiting from a cooler, lower-yielding growing season, it balances immense depth and rich dark fruit with an alluring, exotic floral lift. Now fully mature, it stands as an outstanding example of aged Barossa artistry at its finest. Colour: Inky, deep ruby-purple with a beautifully matured garnet rim. Nose: Powerfully aromatic and multi-layered, bursting with crushed blackberries, dark plums, and liquorice, lifted by highly unique notes of honeysuckle, apricot, and acacia flowers. Palate: Full-bodied, opulent, and velvety smooth, delivering rich flavours of black cherry syrup, fruit cake, and savory tobacco, all framed by wonderfully polished tannins. Finish: Incredibly long and expansive, culminating in a persistent finale of peppery spice, dark fruit, and lightly smoked cedar. Part of the "5 Star Provenance Sale - Avid Wine Collector." sale on Grays.
