What's new: a map view and smarter email alerts
Hi, it's Ben - the solo developer behind GovAuctions.app. This is the start of a new weekly note where I tell you what's new on the site.
I'll keep these short: what new features went live during the week, any interesting data, and any particularly strange auctions that came up.
It's been a busy stretch, so this first edition has a few things I'm excited to show you.
What's new
A map view for the feed. You can now flip the search feed to a clustered map and see listings by location instead of scrolling a list. It's desktop-only for now and covers the US, Canada, and UK. Give it a try (although it's not live on mobile because it's not a great experience).
A "Suggest for me" alert builder. Now you can just describe what you're after in plain English - "a cheap 4x4 pickup within 200 miles of Dallas" - and the site turns it into an alert you can tweak before saving. Set one up.
Faster, more reliable alert emails. I rebuilt how new-listing alerts get matched and sent, so they go out promptly and stop missing items on busy days.
By the numbers
A few things I'm happy to share this week:
- Tens of thousands of live government auction listings indexed at any moment,
- Four countries now: US, UK, Canada and Australia!
- Around 30 free buyer guides covering the major platforms.
Wacky listing of the week
My favorite find this week: a 1993 ATR 42-320 turboprop airliner - yes, an entire 48-seat regional aircraft - up on GSA out of Texas with bidding around $500,000. Government surplus is mostly trucks and office chairs, and then every so often it's a whole airplane.
That's it for the first edition. If you have any questions or suggestions, send me a message - I read every one. Thanks for reading, and happy bidding.
Ben
