A 2000 International 4900 single-axle dump truck with a 7.6L diesel, ex-City of Harvard Public Works, showing about 57,804 miles and 5,751 hours. Dump-truck operators, contractors, and diesel parts sellers are the usual buyers. The listing says it runs and drives fair, so check the hydraulics, the dump body, and the plow and spreader gear, since the truck was used for snow and salt.

This one has been around a year longer and has a few more miles under its belt. Up for auction is a 2000 International 4900 single-axle dump truck, VIN 1HTSDAAN6YH249187, Truck #2, showing approximately 57,804 miles and 5,751 hours. The truck has been part of the City of Harvard's Public Works fleet, spending its career plowing snow, spreading salt, hauling material, and generally doing whatever needed doing. The truck runs and drives fair and remained in service through the 2025-2026 winter season. It is equipped with a dump body, Bonnell hydraulic tailgate spreader, front snowplow, and municipal hydraulic/control equipment as pictured. The plow and spreader were tested and are operational. Like its younger sibling, it has accumulated plenty of experience doing the kind of work that doesn't make vehicles appreciate their owners. Decals and curb shoes have been removed. Over the years, the City has continued maintaining and repairing the truck. A physical inspection of Truck #2 confirmed the following replacement components and repairs: Significant plating and reinforcement repairs to the scissor hoist assembly Replacement hydraulic valve box enclosure Replacement hydraulic oil reservoir Replacement aluminum fuel tank from Aluma-Tank in Harvard Newer muffler, exhaust flex pipe, and vertical stack Steer tires and recapped drive tires dating to approximately 2018 Now, let's talk about the things that give this truck character. First, yes, it has rust. Quite a bit of it. This is a 26-year-old municipal plow truck from northern Illinois. It has spent decades operating in snow, slush, road salt, and conditions that make automotive engineers question their career choices. The dump body, frame, undercarriage, and various components show corrosion consistent with its age and municipal winter service. The scissor hoist assembly has undergone substantial plating and reinforcement by a truck shop. The C-channel frame is beginning to rust-jack, and the dump hoist cylinder has a significant hydraulic oil leak at the gland end. When the dump body is operated, it leaks enough oil to leave a puddle underneath the truck. We're not talking about a little dampness around a fitting or a drop here and there. It leaks, and repairs should be expected before continued use. This vehicle is being retired as part of the City's normal fleet replacement program. It has served the community for more than two decades, and while it still has useful equipment and components, it is an aging municipal truck that will require attention. We have made an effort to photograph the truck honestly, including the undercarriage, hoist assembly, and other areas that generally don't appear in the sales brochures. There are no beauty filters here. What you see is a truck that has worked for a living. Prospective bidders are strongly encouraged to inspect the vehicle, evaluate its mechanical and structural condition, and determine whether it is suitable for their intended use. Bring a flashlight, wear something you don't mind getting dirty, and leave your expectations of rust-free sheet metal at home. All vehicle and item descriptions are to the best of our knowledge. We highly recommend an inspection because it is impossible to describe all faults. No warranty stated or implied. The successful bidder is responsible for pickup and removal. We can assist with loading. We can place the plow into the bed for transport. Please submit any questions about the vehicle or terms VIA the "Ask a question" function on this page. If you ask a question, please refrain from including personal email, phone numbers, or other personal information as all questions will be shared on the auction site with replies.
