2007 Bandit 1290H Brush Chipper – John Deere Diesel – 3,003 Hours For nearly 20 years, this machine has been turning wood into much smaller pieces of wood. Up for auction is a 2007 Bandit Model 1290H drum-style brush chipper rated for 12" diameter logs, powered by a John Deere 4.5L diesel engine, showing approximately 3,003 operating hours. Purchased new by the City of Harvard in 2007 for $34,866.91, this machine has spent its entire working life in municipal service, handling brush collection, tree trimming, storm cleanup, and whatever else Mother Nature decided to throw at Public Works. The chipper remained in regular service until summer 2026, when the City purchased a replacement. It was retired due to age and fleet replacement, not a catastrophic mechanical failure. The good stuff: The machine has been reasonably dependable throughout its municipal career and has received regular maintenance and repairs as needed. Recent maintenance includes: 2024: Replaced digital display due to sun fading. 2025: Replaced battery. 2025: Replaced chipper blades. The machine was function-tested by City staff on October 21, 2026. The engine starts and runs, the clutch engages and disengages, and the hydraulic feed operates properly in both forward and reverse. All functions tested operated as expected, with no known operational deficiencies at the time of testing. Included with the chipper are a new digital controller (round display), a spare set of chipper blades, and a complete clutch kit. The City also has original purchase documentation and manufacturer literature, along with safety and operational materials. Now, the reality check: This is a 19-year-old brush chipper, not something that just rolled off the showroom floor. It has scratches, faded paint, surface rust, worn decals, and the general appearance of a machine that has spent two decades eating tree limbs for breakfast. The feed tray shows wear and corrosion consistent with its age and use. The machine has been maintained to remain functional, but it has not been cosmetically restored. When the opportunity came to replace it, the City decided that nearly two decades of grinding up everything from twigs to substantial branches was enough public service for one machine. No dramatic ending. No spectacular mechanical explosion. No final branch that fought back and won. Just retirement. This machine may have plenty of work left in it for the right buyer, but that determination is yours to make. All vehicle and item descriptions are to the best of our knowledge. We highly recommend an inspection because it is impossible to describe all faults. No warranty stated or implied. The successful bidder is responsible for pickup and removal.
