Offered for auction is approximately 7,700 linear feet of 4/0 (“four-aught”) 15kV stranded copper conductor being retired by Los Alamos County. Cable Details: Approximately 7,700 total linear feet Six conductors estimated at approximately 1,287 feet each 4/0 stranded copper conductor Rated for 15kV Approximately 19 strands of copper wire within the jacket Estimated copper weight: approximately 5,697 lbs. Additional copper ground wire may be present; however, its condition appears poor and it may not be intact. No weight or quantity is being estimated for the additional ground wire. Weight Information: Based on Southwire specifications provided by the seller, the 4/0 15kV cable contains approximately 738 lbs. of copper per 1,000 feet. Including the insulation and jacket, the total cable weight is approximately 1,242 lbs. per 1,000 feet. Based on approximately 7,700 feet of conductor, the estimated total copper content is approximately 5,697 lbs. All lengths, quantities, weights, and copper content are estimates only and are not guaranteed. Buyers should perform their own calculations and due diligence prior to bidding. Important Transite/Asbestos Disclosure: The conductor is currently installed in transite conduit containing asbestos-containing material (ACM). Asbestos was used in the fabrication of the conduit, and there is a possibility that asbestos fibers or material could be present on or come into contact with the conductor during extraction. Los Alamos County will wet the conductor and wipe it down as it is extracted from the conduit. According to professional consultation obtained by the County, this is the recommended method for cleaning the conductor during the extraction process. Removal & Loading: Los Alamos County will be responsible for extracting the conductor from the conduit. The successful bidder will be responsible for providing all equipment, labor, tools, cutting equipment, loading equipment, transportation, and any other resources necessary to take possession of and remove the conductor from the site. It is preferred that the successful bidder be prepared to take possession of the conductor as it is being extracted. Location & Access: The conductor will be extracted from a manhole located at the bottom of a canyon between East Jemez Road, near the main entrance to Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Los Alamos Medical Center on Trinity Boulevard. The site is located behind a locked gate and is not freely accessible. The successful bidder will be granted access beginning on the scheduled conductor removal date, currently planned for September 10, 2026.
