The Covaris S2 Focused Ultrasonicator is a single-tube, bench-top sample preparation system that utilizes patented Adaptive Focused Acoustics (AFA) technology to deliver highly controlled, isothermal acoustic energy. It is widely used in molecular biology laboratories for standardized workflows like DNA/RNA shearing, chromatin shearing (ChIP), cell lysis, and FFPE extraction.  Core Mechanism & Benefits Focused Acoustic Field: Unlike traditional probe sonicators that introduce a direct physical tip into the sample, the S2 uses a dish-shaped transducer to focus geometric acoustic waves directly into a closed vessel.  Isothermal Processing: The acoustic energy generates localized cavitation without heating up the global sample environment, preserving fragile biomolecules. A water bath integrated with an external cooling loop/recirculating chiller keeps the temperature stable (typically 5–40°C).  Contamination & Aerosol Prevention: Because samples are processed in closed tubes (such as Covaris microTUBEs), it entirely eliminates the risks of sample-to-sample cross-contamination and hazardous aerosol generation.  Technical Specifications Capacity: Single-tube processing for sample volumes up to 10,000 µl and mass under 1,000 mg.
