CHESS (NO PIECES INCLUDED) This is a vintage Chinese figural chess set board, typically produced during the mid-to-late 20th century. It features several distinct traditional design elements: • The Frame: Hand-carved relief borders showcasing dragons and clouds, usually made from stained cherrywood, rosewood, or similar hardwoods. • The Squares: Alternating solid black squares and illustrated light squares, which are often made from inlaid ceramic tiles or stone. The light squares are decorated with scenes depicting traditional Chinese motifs or mythological figures, frequently inspired by the "Eight Fairies" (Eight Immortals). • The Functionality: This specific model is a folding board equipped with brass hinges, corner accents, and carry handles. When pulled apart or opened up, it typically includes built-in slide-out drawers or velvet compartments to store the matching hand-carved chess pieces BACKGAMMON (NO PIECES INCLUDED) This is a vintage 1986 Franklin Mint "The Excalibur" Backgammon Set. It features an Arthurian legend / Camelot theme, complete with sword-shaped "points" on the board and heraldic coat-of-arms artwork along the borders. • How it unfolds: The outer wood sections are hinged wings that fold out to create a long, vertical playing board. • Storage shelves: The top and bottom sections include built-in trays and slots designed to hold the dice shakers and the playing pieces. • Missing components: A complete set originally included distinct heavy metal playing checkers (often minted in combinations of gold-plated, silver-plated, or solid bronze finishes representing Arthurian characters) along with specialized dice and dice cups.
