One week of government surplus auctions, around the world

In the week starting September 26, 2026, 48,991 government surplus lots were scheduled to close across the eight countries we cover. The animation plays that week in about 20 seconds: each circle is a pickup location, and it lights up as its lots close.

What stands out

The US is more than half the week on its own, with 27,585 lots from thousands of cities, counties, schools and agencies. That is why the American map fills in like a dot-density map while the rest of the world shows up as a few big circles. Australia is the second biggest market, but almost all of its 12,908 lots sit in a handful of large auction yards. The UK works the same way.

The busiest day was Tue, Sep 29, with 10,478 lots closing, and the busiest single hour was Tuesday 10 AM Eastern, when 1,264 lots closed. In the US, the weekend is the quietest part of the week. Outside the US, 21,406 lots closed over the week.

How we counted

These are scheduled closing times for every non-real-estate lot on our site due to close between September 26 and October 3, 2026. A late bid can extend a lot by a few minutes, so real closing times run slightly later. The animation's map leaves out about 2,500 lots, so its final count is a little lower than the week's total: about 2,000 listings (mostly Australian and British) carry no map location, and the rest are in northern Canada and Puerto Rico, outside the map.
