Morgan, was struck from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921. The San Francisco Mint struck 8,900,000 examples of the 1880-S. This date is famous among Morgan collectors for its consistently excellent strike quality and deep, frosty luster, a result of careful die spacing at the San Francisco facility. Much of the mintage was stored in Mint and Treasury vaults for decades before being released to the public in bag quantities beginning in the 1950s and 1960s, which is why 1880-S dollars are commonly found today in exceptional condition for their age. It remains one of the most popular Morgan dates among collectors seeking an affordable, high-quality example of the series. No specific grade or condition is guaranteed.
