2001 International 4900 CONVENTIONAL CAB 7.6L L6 DIESEL Not going to lie, it hurts to see the last of our 4900's come across the auction block. These trucks have been a staple for municipal maintenance over the years and the 20 of them I've been around. Let's get into it. Up for auction is a 2001 International 4900 single-axle dump truck, VIN 1HTSDAAN51H355880, showing 52,165 miles and 6,449 hours with an automatic transmission. The truck has been owned and operated by the City of Harvard since new and has spent its career doing exactly what you would expect a municipal dump truck in northern Illinois to do: plowing snow, spreading salt, hauling material, and patiently waiting for someone to announce that the forecast has changed again. The truck runs, drives, dumps, and was still in municipal service through the 2025–2026 winter season. It is currently equipped with a dump body, hydraulic tailgate spreader, front plow and municipal hydraulic/control equipment as pictured. The plow and spreader controls are included with the truck, and working at the time of photo (spinner was off the truck but is included). Decals and curb shoes have been removed. The City has continued maintaining the truck throughout its service life. A physical inspection of Truck #11 has confirmed the following replacement components and repairs: Newer leaf springs on all 4 corners Steering gearbox replaced Wheels were replaced with tires, recaps marked 2013 on casing on drives, new marked 2014 on steers Replacement fuel tank from aluma-tank in Harvard Newer exhaust stack and piping Now for the part everyone skips down to: Yes, it has rust. This is a 25-year-old Illinois municipal plow truck. Anyone expecting to find a rust-free frame underneath it may also want to check the glovebox for a winning lottery ticket. The dump body, frame, undercarriage, and various components show significant corrosion from years of winter operations. The C-channel frame is beginning to rust-jack, and the scissor hoist assembly has substantial corrosion, including areas where the metal has rusted completely through. This is more than cosmetic rust and should be carefully inspected and evaluated by prospective bidders before operating the dump hoist. Could last years longer, could be next week. Your level of worry will be completely up to you. The truck runs and drives, and the dump hoist operated during our photographs. However, its operation should not be taken as an indication of the structural condition of the hoist assembly. Repairs may be necessary before continued use. This vehicle is being retired as part of the City's normal fleet replacement program and not because of one specific catastrophic failure. As with any used municipal equipment of this age, bidders should expect wear, corrosion, leaks, tired components, and other opportunities to become better acquainted with their toolbox. We have tried to photograph the truck honestly, including the areas underneath that usually don't make it into glamour shots. It is an aging municipal truck with useful equipment and plenty of history, but it will need attention. Prospective bidders should inspect it thoroughly and determine whether it meets their intended use. All vehicle and item descriptions are to the best of our knowledge. We highly recommend an inspection because it is impossible to describe all faults. No warranty stated or implied. The successful bidder is responsible for pickup and removal. We can assist with loading. We can place the plow into the bed for transport. Please submit any questions about the vehicle or terms VIA the “Ask a question” function on this page. ***If you ask a question, please refrain from including personal email, phone numbers, or other personal information as all questions will be shared on the auction site with replies.***
