2003 Elgin Whirlwind Sweeper on Sterling SC8000 Chassis

GovDealsVehicles📍Harvard, IL
GovAuctions Summary

A 2003 Elgin Whirlwind MV street sweeper on a Sterling SC8000 cabover chassis with a Cummins 5.9L diesel and a John Deere 4045T sweeper engine. Municipal sweeper dealers, parts sellers and small contractors who run sweeping operations are the likely buyers. Check the hour meter on the sweeper engine, the chassis mileage, and the hopper and brush condition, since those drive the sweeper's value.

Estimated flip margin and comp range available with Pro. Summary may occasionally contain inaccuracies; check the full description before bidding.

Full Description

2003 Sterling SC8000 TILT CAB 5.9L L6 DIESEL - Elgin WHIRLWIND MV The purge continues! Hot off the surplus declaration from the City Council, add a street sweeper into the mix. It sucks! Literally! Up for auction is a 2002 Elgin Whirlwind Series MV street sweeper on a Sterling cabover chassis, VIN 49HAADBV83DK36893, Elgin serial MV02323. It shows approximately 33,457 chassis miles and 8,017 hours on the auxiliary sweeper engine. Equipped with a rock-solid reliable 5.9L 24V Cummins diesel chassis engine, automatic transmission, and separate Rock of Gibraltar, a John Deere 4045T diesel engine powering the rear for sweeping operations. Purchased new by the City of Harvard in 2002 for $146,012, it has spent its career cleaning up debris and whatever else ends up along the curb. The guys used the wandering hose on the back for cleaning intakes and light hydro excavating until we got a combination vactor/hydroex. It is a versatile sweeper. The truck starts, runs, drives, and sweeps. Both engines start and operate, no issues of note. Best of both worlds here, mechanical sweeping if needed (extension broom) with the mechanical gutter brooms and vacuum. The City has performed regular maintenance over the years. Some highlights: Debris hopper interior relined several years ago Aftermarket aluminum coolant reservoir installed behind the cab Two spare extension brooms included Operator's manuals and parts manual included Now for the part where 24 years of sweeping catches up with you. The truck and sweeper show wear, corrosion, and the usual evidence of a long municipal career. It's not a restored machine, but it has kept doing its job. Machine was replaced with a newer Elgin Sweeper (brand loyal here), not because of a known catastrophic failure. There are two engines, sweeping equipment, hoses, controls, and plenty of opportunities to get acquainted with your toolbox. Everything described as operational was working when checked, but future repairs should be expected. We've photographed the machine as honestly as we can, including the less glamorous areas. There is a video of it running and sweeping in the media posted here. It may be a useful sweeper for another municipality or contractor, or perhaps you've always wanted the largest vacuum cleaner on your block. Either way, please inspect it and decide whether it suits your needs. All vehicle and item descriptions are to the best of our knowledge. We highly recommend an inspection because it is impossible to describe all faults. No warranty stated or implied. The successful bidder is responsible for pickup and removal. We can assist with loading.
