At the Circus, 39 Limited Edition Pieces, Numbered with Certificates of Authenticity, is a selection from these works. Remarkably, these careful renderings of the performers in the ring were executed from memory. Lautrec, with his typical humor, dubbed the clinic "Madrid-les-Bains" and inscribed the drawing Clown Trainer with, Madrid, Easter 1899, to Arsene Alexandre, in memory of my captivity. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec Monfa was born on November 23, 1864. The son of first cousins Count Alphonse de Toulouse-Lautrec Monfa and Adele Tapie de Celeyran, Lautrec was plagued by frail health from as early age. One of the privileges of wealth at this time was the ownership of horses and animals. The Count was an avid sportsman and soon had his son on horseback. The early sketches of Lautrec were often of horses and other animals, and later depicted races and games. This Lautrec Suite of 39 Individual Limited Edition Numbered Prints came into us in its Original Book with ALL Certificates. Unopened, we opened it so we could take pictures for this listing.
