A Franz Schmidt & Haensch antique saccharimeter is a 19th-to-20th-century German scientific device used to measure sugar concentration via polarized light rotation. Founded in Berlin in 1864 by mechanic Franz Schmidt and optician Herrmann Haensch, the firm became world-renowned for precision optical and analytical instruments.  Instrument Design and Function Operation: Measures sugar content by passing polarized light through a central glass observation tube filled with a liquid solution, reading the angle of rotation on a graduated circular scale.  Applications: Historically utilized in chemical laboratories, universities, and the wine-making or sugar-refining industries to ensure consistent quality, alcohol levels, and concentration accuracy The Antique Saccharimeter has not been tested.
