RESERVE PRICE ON THIS ITEM IS $45. We have other rare Confederate bills on auction this week that came in from the estate of a gentleman from Alabama, so be sure to check out our other auctions! You are bidding on a GENUINE, 1863 Alabama issued Confederate States, Civil War, fractional 25 cents bill!!! This is the REAL DEAL, a real CR_AL-6 second series bill! THIS IS NOT A REPRODUCTION BILL!! This particular bill is serial number 76857 and it was issued on January 1st 1863, making it a New Year's bill!! It is in INCREDIBLE CONDITION for a 163 year old bill. The central vignette features a horse-drawn wagon loaded with cotton. The lower right corner displays a portrait of Juliet Opie Hopkins, a prominent Alabama woman who coordinated hospitals for wounded soldiers and was known as the "Angel of the South." The note also features a cotton wagon pulled by horses, paying homage to Alabama's agricultural economy during the Civil War. Like most genuine Confederate issues of this era, this notes feature hand-signed Treasury signatures and handwritten serial number. The bill will come in a protective sleeve allowing you to show it to your friends and family while protecting it. Most Confederate bills, such as this one, were printed only on one side (uniface) to save time and lower production costs during the American Civil War. The Confederate States dollar administration faced severe shortages of paper, ink, specialized machinery, and skilled engravers, forcing them to rush basic promissory notes into circulation. This series of note was issued when the Confederacy was also struggling with shortages of coins and reliable currency. States such as Alabama issued small-denomination notes to help facilitate everyday transactions. Due to the rarity of fractional notes such as this one, we have put a more than fair reserve price of $45 on this particular auction. Whether you collect money, American historical items or Civil War memorabilia, here's your chance to add an incredible piece of monetary history to your collection.... and for a great GovDeals price!
