THIS IS NOT A REPRODUCTION BILL!! This particular bill is serial number 18262 and it was issued on February 17th, 1864. It is in INCREDIBLE CONDITION for a 162year old bill!! . It features an engraving of the Confederate Capitol in Richmond on the front center and a portrait of Treasury Secretary Christopher Memminger on the bottom right. Like most genuine Confederate issues of this era, authentic T-71 notes feature hand-signed Treasury signatures and handwritten serial number. The bill will come in a protective sleeve allowing you to show it to your friends and family while protecting it. In addition to all of this, this is one of the few RARE Confederate bills that had printing on the back! Most Confederate bills were printed only on one side (uniface) to save time and lower production costs during the American Civil War. The Confederate States dollar administration faced severe shortages of paper, ink, specialized machinery, and skilled engravers, forcing them to rush basic promissory notes into circulation. FUN FACT! A T-69 bill just like this one was found in Abraham Lincoln's wallet after his assassination on April 14, 1865. Historians believe he likely obtained the note as a souvenir just days earlier during his visit to the captured Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia. Lower grade circulated notes such as this typically sell for between $50 and $90. With that in mind, we have put a more than fair starting bid of $25 on this particular auction.
