How tax sales work
At a tax sale the county sells property, or a certificate against it, to collect unpaid property taxes. Depending on the state, the owner may keep a right to redeem after the sale, and the buyer may have to wait and give notice before getting a deed. Parcels are often withdrawn before the sale when the taxes are paid.
Whether Indiana sells tax liens or tax deeds, and how long an owner can redeem, is in our tax lien vs tax deed state guide.
