How long do you have to pick up an item from a government auction?
| Applies to U.S. government auctions
Usually 5 to 10 business days. Every listing states its own removal window, and you must collect the item, or send someone, before it closes.
Common terms: GSA Auctions commonly allows 10 business days from the award notice, and some sales give 15 calendar days from payment. GovDeals and Public Surplus sellers usually allow 5 to 10 business days after payment, by appointment. GSA fleet vehicles sold through IAA get 10 free storage days from the award, then $50 a day. Illinois iBid pickup is by appointment within about ten days of the sale closing.
Pickup hours are often weekday business hours only. Bring your paid receipt and a government-issued ID, and check in advance what authorization the seller needs if someone else is collecting for you. Missing the window can mean storage fees, losing the item, or a default on your account.
