Morgan and struck from 1878 through 1904 and again in 1921. The obverse features Lady Liberty with crown and flowing hair and the reverse a heraldic eagle with wings spread. The 1889 Philadelphia issue had a mintage of approximately 21.7 million coins. At 137 years old this coin was circulating during the height of the American Old West — the same year the Eiffel Tower was completed and just one year before the closure of the American frontier.
