Do you need a dealer license to buy at government auctions?

| Applies to U.S. government auctions

No. Government surplus auctions are open to the public, and you do not need a dealer license or a business to bid. You need a free account on the platform running the sale and a way to pay.

A few categories have extra checks. Firearms and some regulated items on PropertyRoom have eligibility rules, some military items need export clearance, and HUD homes open with a period reserved for buyers who will live in the home. Each listing states any restriction.

Retired police cars are open to the public too. Lights, sirens and police markings are removed before sale.
